Tips to Maintain Your Hair Extensions

You can invest in hair extensions to add to the bounce and shine of your hair. These extensions should be well taken care of in order to prevent them from losing their sparkle. You may even refer to your hair stylist for solutions. The extensions can be kept in a better state with the help of the following tips:

Wash your Hair: Washing is the first important rule of adding to the health of your hair. Your hair should always be kept clean because sweat and dirt can tangle it. The accumulation of dust makes hair look lack luster and this is why you are advised to wash your hair right after exercise or swimming.

Make sure that the hair is maintained and washed in a downward manner. First off, remove all the tangles with the help of a good quality shampoo. With advice from your stylist, you can look for the best solution. If you have extremely dry hair, do not put lots of water as it can lead to tangling and swelling. Wet your hair extensions gradually and put a gentle brush before washing it entirely. This is a common occurrence if you have chosen cheap hair extensions.

Style: Your hair stylist will advise you to use a gentle brush for taking care of the extensions. Start by approaching the ends and gradually move your way upwards. Make sure to apply the brush downwards always. Do not be too harsh on your hair. It is best to brush the long extensions twice or thrice a day. Remember not to apply heat. It is the worst enemy your hair can make, and it will also make your hair extensions less durable. Make sure about using curling irons and blow dryers carefully. It is ideally suggested to allow your hair to dry naturally.

Exercise: While swimming, make sure that you wear a cap as it helps keep the extensions out of the water. Salt and chlorine water can make your hair matted and entangled. This is why girls are advised to tie their hair up or make a ponytail while they are exercising or swimming.

Sleep Well: Do not ever go to sleep while the hair is still wet. The hair must be dried completely before you hit the bed. You should wrap the hair together or tie it up in a gentle bun to avoid tangling.

While using hair care products, you should go for a leave in conditioner to ensure that your hair stays soft and silky. You should never overdo it while applying the hair care products. Too much of any hair care product or conditioner may lead to tangling and congestion. You should also avoid the hair care products that contain alcohol as it leads to drying up of hair. Your stylist should be the best person to advise you on hair care products.

Different kinds of hair treatments are available these days and all of them might not be good for your hair extensions. Hence, perming, coloring or any other chemical processes should be avoided at all rates.
